Judy's Round Robin Band by Band

Judy says...

Rae
We are all extraordinarily grateful that you have spent countless hours designing and inspiring us to stitch to our greatest abilities. For this reason, I would like to dedicate the Round Robin projects in your honor. You have truly taught us very well and here is to many more inspirations and many more years of wonderful designs.

To all of you
A continued long lasting friendship and....

Heather
Thanks for the countless hours that you have spent on the website for us (and others) to see the fantastic works that we have created. Who knew that Dogwood Stitchery class would have created such wonderful ideas. Thanks for all your great ideas - and for being my Secret Stitcher buddy!!! :-)

Jill
I really want to thank you for inspiring us to use our talents with this project - it has been truly an inspiration to me for use of colors and ideas that we never imagined from the many years of classes with Rae Iverson. I appreciate all the coordination that you did to get us motivated and moving forward on the Round Robins. :-)

Teresa
ASG has been simply the best - I am so glad that you introduced yourself to me many years ago when we first started coming to Hilton Head. You are as always a great friend!! Words can't express my feelings so I guess you can see it in my stitching to you on the last Round Robin row. And about Mystery IV...... :-)

Judy's top

This is a modified band from the "Dogwood Stitchery" needleroll.

Teresa's 1st band

Row 1 of 3
Double V Cross from Area 6 of Rae's "The Embroidress". I stitched this in Anchor 870, at least that's what my notes say.
Row 2 of 3 which is really an area...
The outside border was inspired by Rae's "Royal Blackwork: a sampler in the 17th century English tradition". It was adapted from Band 6 and was stitched in Splendor #849 which I added. The inside is from Band 2 of Rae's Blackwork Band Sampler and was stitched with Wildflowers "Tif. Rose" is what I have on my notes.
Row 3 of 3
Long Armed Cross with my initials in one of the purples, maybe the one up from 870.

Jill's 1st band

Row 1 of 3 (inspired by the ocean)
  • Palestrina Knot from Dogwood Stitchery Needleroll Band 6 in Gentle Art Tropical Ocean over 2
  • Breton Stitch from Millenium Garden Gate Band 5 in overdyed Bali Hai over 4 (times 2)
  • Palestrina Knot in Gentle Art Tropical Ocean over 2
Row 2 of 3
Darning Band from Peacock Fancy Band 4 in Crystal 701 (Glisson Gloss) over 10
Row 3 of 3
Russian Braid from Dogwood Stitchery Band 10 in DMC Rayon #33607 over 4

Heather's 1st band

Row 1 of 4
Drawn thread band from Everything Under the Sun chatelaine, done in ecru pearl cotton #12 (didn't think you'd mind me adding that fiber :).
Row 2 of 4
Triple Twist (from Everything Under the Sun chatelaine). In Rae's directions, this is done with two strands of floss. But I must be different...I used (for the top and bottom lines) Violets Vicki Clayton overdyed silk pearl cotton #8 AND Kreinik blending filament (the pink one...I didn't write down the color!), and #12 ecru pearl cotton for the middle line.
Row 3 of 4
From Judy's instruction sheet, it seemed like she really wanted bands constructed from motifs...I don't know if this is what you were after, but this band is constructed from flowers, leaves and vines from Summer Jewels. Of course I changed all the colors...it is done in Anchor floss and metallic floss and whatever the pink overdyed was (I'm assuming it's left over from one of Rae's kits).
Row 4 of 4
Diagonal Oblong Barred Cross from Summer Garden Gate, in Weeks' Madras.

Teresa's 2nd band

Row 1 of 4
A TMB original based on mosaic work found at the current church at Lazarus' tomb. Picture is of a floor from a much earlier church that was built at this same site. Stitched in Anchor 873 and with purple lined beads from my bead collection.
Row 2 of 4
Floral Border from Rae's "Shaker Peace Box", 1 over 1. Lot's of changes here. I used Sampler Thread "Evergreen" for the vine, the daisies are in Six Strand Sweets "Rummed Raisin", the "confetti flowers" are in Anchor 869 + Blending filament #023 and Anchor 171 _ Blending filament #025, the Pansies are in Victoria Clayton's overdyed floss (can't remember the name but I'll send it to you later).
Row 3 of 4
This row is also my own, and is based on the gate at the Church of Mary's Well in Nazareth. It is a Modified Tied Sheath stitch with cross and is stitched in SSS Rummed Raisin with the cross in Anchor gold floss. Above and below are 4mm Swavorski crystal bicone 4mm beads in Tanzanite (also from my bead collection). I thought they added some additional sparkle!
Row 4 of 4
Italian cross from something Rae did in a blend of Anchor 117 & 859.

Jill's 2nd band

Row 1 of 4
Blackwork Band Sampler Band 6 (Leaves) in Splendor S849.
Row 2 of 4
Drawn Thread inside border from The Embroidress in Ecru.
Row 3 of 4
Three rows of Renaissance Stitch from Millenium Garden Gate:
Blackberry (Victoria Clayton)
Anchor 117
DMC 3608
Row 4 of 4
Smyrna Crosses in Bali Hi and Delica 11/0 beads (#815) Crystal/Bronze lined.

Heather's 2nd band

Row 1 of 4
Victoria & Albert Herringbone in wildflowers.
Row 2 of 4
Blackwork based on an iron balcony in Paris, actually the same one from which I took Teresa's.

In between are lace wheels in SSS Rummed Raisin and Kreinik blending filament.
Row 3 of 4
Darning pattern from "The Maiden and the Nightingales," stitched in Gentle Arts Sampler Thread.
Row 4 of 4
The side portions are eyelet flowers from Spring Garden Gate stitched in Madras WDW and the potted vine from Millennium Garden Gate (turned sideways) stitched in Anchor, SSS Rummed Raisin, Kreinik BF and #4 braid (green), and Needle Necessities. That MGG band is one of only two or three that stumped Rae! :) In the center of the band is an old freebie, Queen Stitch Heart, stitched in Anchor and Victoria Clayton silk, with beads instead of knots. I thought it made a nice "bottom" for the sampler; I hope you like it!!
